The Beckman Center for Molecular and Genetic Medicine is an interdisciplinary center, part of Stanford School of Medicine at Stanford University, Stanford, California. Considered a "unique facility", it was one of the first research centers to take a translational medicine approach to molecular and medical genetics. [1]
He was born in 1946 in Temple, Texas and earned his B.A. at University of California at Berkeley in 1968 and a Ph.D at Stanford University in 1975. [3] His father taught a clinical post graduate course in psychoanalysis at Stanford, where Skolnick was introduced to the bright Stanford academics at a very young age.
He went to the University of Wisconsin–Madison where he received a Master of Science in 1978 and a Ph.D. in 1980 in plant breeding/plant genetics. Although retiring in 1998, Sanford continued at Cornell University as a Courtesy Associate Professor between 1998 and 2017. [ 1 ]
Julie Baker is an American biologist who studies genetics and genomics, cell fate determination, and cellular communication. [1] [2] She is a professor of Genetics at the Stanford University School of Medicine and is a member of Stanford Bio-X and the Stanford Maternal & Child Health Research Institute (MCHRI). [3] [4]
He has published over 200 works in peer-reviewed journals. For his contributions to population genetics he was awarded, in 2010, a MacArthur Fellowship grant, for "mining DNA sequence data to address fundamental questions about the mechanisms of evolution, the complex origins of human genetic diversity, and patterns of population migration."
