I know that .22 rounds will most likely be prolific when SHTF but .22 mag may not be quite so easily found. Therefore, I'm thinking I should just go for a regular .22 semi-auto and forget the mag. Henry's have a ridiculously simple action, which is why they're usually so reliable. The cartridge is lifted by the lift gate only high enough for the the bolt to pick it up coming forward. And when operating properly, the cartridge should be laying flat in the action until the bolt pushes it forward into the feed ramp and then up into the breach.
Clean burning .22 mag vss .22 long rifle. I shot some CCI long rifles in the single six a few days ago. Marlin makes a few 22 mags in that price range. They are usually quite accurate and the triggers are supposed to be very good now. You would also get the choice of a box mag or a tube mag. I personally an trying to scavenge some extra funds together to pick up an XT22
The real question is what are the firearms? There is more than a caliber issue when making this kind of decision. Normally the .222 CF would be worth more than a .22 Mag. However if the .22 Mag is a CZ Bruno take down with extra clips the game changes. Trade for the most valuable rifle, you can always trade for something else.
