Utahraptor was one of, if not the largest and heaviest of all dromaeosaurids, with the largest assigned specimen BYUVP 15465 having a femoral length of 56.5–60 cm (22.2–23.6 in). [8] [9] Utahraptor is estimated to have reached 6–7 metres (20–23 ft) in length and somewhat less than 500 kg (1,100 lb), comparable in weight to a polar bear.
The Utahraptor, however, was a more accurate dinosaur in size comparison to the franchise's Velociraptors; it was discovered shortly before the 1993 release of Jurassic Park ' s film adaptation. [12] [13] Special-effects artist Stan Winston, who worked on the raptors, joked: "After we created it, they discovered it". [12]
As a result, they portrayed the film's dinosaurs with the size, proportions, and snout shape of Deinonychus. [2] The 20-foot-long (6.1 m) Utahraptor is commonly considered to be a close match to the film's dinosaurs, which are much larger than either Deinonychus or Velociraptor were in life. [82] [83]

Velociraptor specimens compared in size to a 1.8 m (5 ft 11 in) tall human Velociraptor was a small to medium-sized dromaeosaurid , with adults measuring between 1.5–2.07 m (4.9–6.8 ft) long, approximately 0.5 m (1.6 ft) high at the hips, [ 22 ] [ 23 ] and weighing about 14.1–19.7 kg (31–43 lb).
They again formed a clade with Utahraptor, of which clade Achillobator was the direct side branch. Despite being related to other large dromaeosaurids, Dakotaraptor was suggested to represent a separate fourth instance of dromaeosaurid size increase, besides Deinonychus, Unenlagia, and the Achillobator plus Utahraptor clade.
