This template displays the current UTC year, month, day, and time in YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM format. It is most useful in User pages, when you want to display the current time. It generally should not be used in articles, since a fixed time is usually desirable. It does not display on talk pages, where a fixed time stamp is needed.

This template is a partial self-reference because it uses an equation to calculate the date and time. However, this date and time is easily verifiable and so is part of the encyclopedic content. If you wish for the reference to appear this template should be substituted onto pages it appears on.

The time is calculated based on the offset from UTC for the specified time zone taking into account whether daylight saving time is currently active in that time zone. Note: Most Wikipedia pages display a cached version of the page to reduce server load, so the template will only display the current time as of when the page was last parsed .
