Flow cytometry (FC) is a technique used to detect and measure the physical and chemical characteristics of a population of cells or particles. [1] [2] [3] [4]In this process, a sample containing cells or particles is suspended in a fluid and injected into the flow cytometer instrument.
Metastases cause 90% of cancer-related deaths and as such, detection of CTCs is critical to the prevention of mets. [14] Studies have shown earlier detection of CTCs improves treatment and thus longer survival times. (15) Current detection methods include RT-PCR, flow cytometry, optical sensing, cell size filtration among others. [14]
MHC pentamers have been used in the detection of antigen-specific CD8+ T cells in flow cytometry, [12] and are cited in over 750 peer reviewed publications , including several in the journals Nature [22] and Science. [23] [24] MHC pentamers can also be used in tissue staining, [25] and in magnetic isolation of antigen-specific T cells. [26]
These proteins can be stained with fluorescent dye labeled antibodies and detected using flow cytometry. The limit of detection of immunological tests is generally about one in 10,000 cells and cannot be used on leukaemias that don't have an identifiable and stable leukaemic phenotype.
A liquid biopsy, also known as fluid biopsy or fluid phase biopsy, is the sampling and analysis of non-solid biological tissue, primarily blood. [1] [2] Like traditional biopsy, this type of technique is mainly used as a diagnostic and monitoring tool for diseases such as cancer, with the added benefit of being largely non-invasive.
Cancer Testis Antigen CD1d Dextramer - These MHC Dextramers are flow cytometry reagents for the identification and sorting of Natural killer cells (NKT), as well as an extensive range of single reagents for detection of cancer- and viral-specific T cells. The CD1d/α-GalCer displays human CD1d molecules loaded with α-GalCer.
