Anticrepuscular rays, or antisolar rays, [1] are meteorological optical phenomena similar to crepuscular rays, but appear opposite the Sun in the sky. Anticrepuscular rays are essentially parallel , but appear to converge toward the antisolar point , the vanishing point , due to a visual illusion from linear perspective .
A book on meteorological optics was published in the sixteenth century, but there have been numerous books on the subject since about 1950. [6] The topic was popularised by the wide circulation of a book by Marcel Minnaert, Light and Color in the Open Air, in 1954.

The anthelic point is often used as a synonym for the antisolar point, but the two should be differentiated. [1] While the antisolar point is directly opposite the sun, always below the horizon when the sun is up, the anthelic point is opposite but at the same elevation as the sun, and is therefore located on the parhelic circle.
