Lodge Park was built as a grandstand in the Sherborne Estate near the villages of Sherborne, Aldsworth and Northleach in Gloucestershire, England. The site is owned by the National Trust [ 1 ] and the former grandstand is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building . [ 2 ]
In 1624–40 John Dutton acquired land 2 miles (3.2 km) southwest of the village to create a deer park. [4] He had The Lodge built as a viewing stand to watch deer being coursed by greyhounds. [8] In 1898 it was extended for Susan, Lady Sherborne and converted into a house. [10] The National Trust now owns the Lodge Park and Sherborne Estate. [11]

The house was bought in 1890 by the Hon. Francis Law Latham, the then Advocate-General of Bombay. [9] In 1924 the house became Gad's Hill School, which it remains today. [10] As of 2013, the school was moving into purpose-built buildings in the grounds of the house, and there was a plan to open the house as a museum. [11] [12]

A U-shaped house was built on this site in 1651–3 by Valentine Strong (d.1662) [3] for John Dutton and was rebuilt in 1829–1834 for John Dutton, 2nd Baron Sherborne by Lewis Wyatt. [4] The house, which reproduces the style of the 17th-century building, has a square plan with a central courtyard and a three-storey façade.
