Sarkar (transl. Government) is the soundtrack album for the 2018 Indian Tamil-language political action thriller film of the same name.The album composed by A. R. Rahman [1] with lyrics written by Vivek, [2] consists of five songs, two of which were released as singles prior to the audio launch, held on 2 October 2018.
[1] [2] Sarkar composed a total of 5,018 songs, including the lyrics and the melody, over a period of eight years from 1982 until his death in 1990. [3] While most songs are in the Bengali language, some are in Hindi , English , Sanskrit , Urdu , Magahi , Maithili and Angika .
The promotional music event featured dance performances for the songs in the background. The soundtrack album was released and bagged under the Sony Music record label. Vivek Velmurugan, known by his stage name Vivek, is an Indian lyricist working on Tamil language films. After making his debut in Enakkul Oruvan (2015), he received critical acclaim for his work in 36 Vayadhinile (2015), Jil Jung Juk (2016), Mersal (2017), Sarkar (2018), Petta (2019), Bigil (2019) and Jagame Thandhiram (2021) .
The album received generally positive reviews from critics. Sify wrote: "Overall, it is a classy and refreshing album". [8] Pavithra Srinivasan of Rediff claimed that the music had "nothing new to offer" and that "except Google Google and the mildly melodious Poi Varavaa, the rest are all oft-heard, and seem a mish-mash of his (Jayaraj's) earlier tunes".
