During the 2010s, plans were made for the four remaining clubs from Erpe-Mere (SK Aaigem, KRC Bambrugge, KFC Olympic Burst and FC Mere) to merge. [1] Eventually, in 2021 KRC Bambrugge and FC Mere merged to form Erpe-Mere United from the 2021–2022 season on, with Aaigem and Burst still to be integrated later on.
The sub-municipality is bordered by the sub-municipalities of Mere, Ottergem, and Erondegem and the municipalities Lede and Aalst. Erpe had 4903 inhabitants as of 1 January 2003 and an area of 8.28 km 2 (3.20 sq mi). The population density is 592/km 2 (1,530/sq mi).

The area north of the N9 (Aalst-Ghent) is between 10 and 30 meters high, the area between the N9 and E40 (Brussels-Ghent) is between 25 and 50 meters high and the area south of it has hills peaks up to 80 meters.
