Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Plasmawr is a Welsh-medium comprehensive secondary school in Cardiff. It opened in September 1998 as the second school of its kind in Cardiff. Its buildings had formerly belonged to Waterhall Secondary Modern School and more recently formed Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf's Lower School. The current headteacher is Dr Rhodri Thomas.
Ysgol Gymraeg Pwll Coch is a Welsh-medium primary school which provides education for pupils from a wide and diverse area of west Cardiff, including Riverside and parts of Canton, Pontcanna and Victoria Park. There are 520 pupils between 3 and 11 years old on roll, including 64 part-time nursery age pupils.
In June 2009, a bring-and-buy reuse shop, Restore, was also opened by the local council in an effort to reduce waste in the district. In May 2012 the council beat Warwickshire County Council and Cardiff City Council to win the best Local Authority Recycling Initiative at the ninth annual Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management. The school moved to an adjacent site in 1903, and its original building was then used as a workhouse under the Board of Guardians for accommodating mentally ill, mentally defective and chronic aged and infirm patients. In 1930 control of the institution passed to the Public Assistance Committee of Cardiff City Council.

There are three primary schools in close proximity to each other: Holy Family R.C. Primary, Pentrebane Primary and Ysgol Coed Y Gof. A Roman Catholic secondary school , Bishop Hannon was built in Pentrebane in the 1960s but demolished around 1987 to make way for housing (on what is now called Bell Fields).
Former Glyn Derw High School (2007) Cardiff West Community High School was built on the site of Glyn Derw High School. [5] [6] Although Glyn Derw had already been closed, a fire started by arson destroyed much of the school, delaying construction. [7] The new build cost £36,000,000, [8] [9] and the project was run by Willmott Dixon.
