Kanu Gandhi (1917 – 20 February 1986) was an Indian photographer. He was a grandnephew of Mahatma Gandhi who lived with him in several of his ashrams and was a member of his personal staff. He is best remembered as Gandhi's photographer, recording many moments of Gandhi's life on film from 1938 until his assassination in 1948.
A five-hour, nine-minute long biographical documentary film, [345] Mahatma: Life of Gandhi, 1869–1948, made by Vithalbhai Jhaveri [346] in 1968, quoting Gandhi's words and using black and white archival footage and photographs, captures the history of those times.
The film is in black and white, contains 33 reels (14 chapters), and runs for 330 minutes. The film was made to seek to tell the life story Gandhi, and his incessant search for Truth. The film contains animation, live photography and old prints to provide an integrated image of his life. The story itself is narrated using mostly Gandhi's own words.
