Herman is an unincorporated community in L'Anse Township of Baraga County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It was established in 1901 along a branch of the Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic Railway approximately midway between Nestoria and L'Anse. [1] A post office opened January 13, 1903, and was discontinued on December 5, 1970. [2]

Sidnaw was founded by lumber companies harvesting white pine in the area. The community was first platted by Thomas Nester in 1889. Sidnaw had a station on the Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic Railway. A post office opened in Sidnaw on December 7, 1889; George Garland was the first postmaster.

The company founded the settlement in 1888 to provide for logging camps. It received a Post Office in 1889 and was nearly destroyed by a forest fire in 1893. The community was rebuilt, only to be ruined by another fire in 1906. [5] The Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic Railway (now the Soo Line Railroad) passed through the settlement.
