State Highway 16 (SH 16) is a 541.823-mile (871.980 km) south–north state highway in Texas, United States. that runs from Zapata on the boundary with Mexico to U.S. Highway 281 24 miles (39 km) south of Wichita Falls. It is the longest state highway in Texas, but is only the ninth-longest of any highway classification in the state. [2]

Sanders, the 16th was shrunk down to the city of El Paso (except a sliver in the east) and most of its surrounding suburban communities. Since the 1990s, the 16th has been the only Democratic bastion in heavily Republican West Texas.

District 16 is a district in the Texas House of Representatives. It was created in the 3rd legislature (1849–1851). The district has been represented by Republican Will Metcalf since November 4, 2014, upon his re-election to the Texas House in a special election after the prior representative, Brandon Creighton , was elected to the Texas Senate.
