The Brigade of The Guards is a mechanised infantry regiment of the Indian Army. It was raised as the first "all India", "all class" infantry unit of the Army where troops from all parts of India serve together, as opposed to other regiments that recruit from specific regions, ethnic groups or religions.
In 1864 the unit was transferred to the First Indian Brigade under Native American Brigadier General Stand Watie and fought under his command at the Second Battle of Cabin Creek on September 19, 1864. The battalion surrendered to Union forces on June 23, 1865, one of the last Confederate units to lay down its arms.

The Quarter Guard of the MIRC was created on 9 August 1979 during the first biennial conference. After the sanction of KLP, the present Quarter Guard was conceptualised in half circular area with front wide platform. The new Quarter Guard was completed in 1986. The Quarter Guard has 18 internal rooms as well as an armour shop and a guard room.

Sharma graduated from OTA, Chennai (SSC - 72), and was commissioned into the 19th battalion, Brigade of the Guards on 1 September 2001. [4] In his two decades of service in the Army, he was a part of multiple successful counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir. [5] Sharma was awarded the Sena Medal for gallantry on 26 January 2018. [6]
After Indian gained independence in 1947, the 4th Grenadiers were allocated to the Indian Army and retitled The Grenadiers. The Battalion which had once been the 101st transferred to the Brigade of the Guards in 1952, becoming its 2nd Battalion (2 Guards).
Major Anuj Sood, SC (17 Dec 1989 – 2 May 2020) [2] was an Indian Army Officer who received the Shaurya Chakra posthumously. [3] He was a member of the 19th Battalion, Brigade of Guards and 21st Rashtriya Rifles Battalion. [4] [5] He was martyred in action while serving with the latter in Handwara, Jammu and Kashmir.
