I have a Mark I Target with a tapered 6 7/8" heavy barrel, a stainless Mark II target with a 5.5" heavy barrel and a Mark III 22/45 with a heavy barrel. The Mark I and Mark II are both so accurate it's almost boring after awhile just cutting the middle out of the bullseye. Wouldn't part with either one of them.
Once sighted in, the advantage of a red dot is a sight easier to place on the target. Most red dot sights use a CR2032 three volt battery with a variable brightness control. I have a red dot on my Mark III Hunter and iron sights on my 22/45. The red dot adds a bit of bulk to the pistol which precludes using a regular holster.
1. The 22/45 RP model has a 1911-esque grip, and feels good with the cocobolo grip panels. 2. The 22/45's front sight is easily swapped. I put on a hi-viz front sight. The MKIII Standard has a fixed front blade. 3. The weight of the bull barrel on the 22/45 mitigates recoil better. Both the 22/45RP and the MKIII Standard are excellent weapons.
Mark III Re-assembly issues - STUCK - literally. Ok - so I bought a new Mark III Standard. Did all my homework, read the manual, watched the Ruger videos and others online, and went to disassemble the pistol before firing. It was covered inside and out with grit - almost like fine rust. Everything felt gritty when moving it around.
Sorry if this is a common issue that has been addressed. I am having problems with the factory Mark III Target rear sight. The sight shifts to the right during the course of 30-40 minutes of shooting. The entire sight is shifting to the right, not the adjustable portion. It's strange because in order to correct it, I loosen the "locking" screw ...
Mo, If you go with the 22/45, the replaceable grips will obviously help with customized hand/gun fit. My 22/45 is an earlier version which does not allow replacement of the grips, easily. I much prefer my Ruger MK II. Customized the grips easily. The MK II is far and away, a tack driver. Both have the 5 1/2 bull barrel.
