Douglasville is located approximately 20 miles (32 km) west of Atlanta and is part of the Atlanta metro area.
The county was created during Reconstruction after the American Civil War.The Georgia General Assembly named it after abolitionist Frederick Douglass but later changed the spelling to instead credit former Illinois senator Stephen A.
