Krewella formed in 2007 and consisted of sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf, together with producer Kris Trindl. Jahan and Kris met at a Glenbrook North High School party in 2006. They were in a relationship. Their relationship ended in 2011. Their music is a blend of self-produced electro house and dubstep, with influences of many other EDM styles.

The song was written by band members Kris Trindl, Yasmine Yousaf and Jahan Yousaf, along with Nicholas Ditri and Daniel Boselovic, whilst production was handled by the electronic music trio Cash Cash, [3] who also assisted in writing the song.
The single artwork was released prior to the release of the single itself on social media accounts belonging to Krewella, and was designed by the sister of Jahan and Yasmine. The track is deeply routed in progressive house with uplifting synths, piano embellishments, and sweeping orchestral sections. [3]
About the sound of the track, Krewella stated: "We went back to the roots for that one,” says Yasmine. “The reason why we fell in love with dance music is people like Daft Punk, Justice, MSTRKRFT... all those people were doing this grungy, punk-y dance stuff and we wanted to channel that for the new song that’s out."
