Topsail Island (/ ˈ t ɑː p s ɪ l /, TOP-sill) is a 26-mile (41.8 km) long barrier island off the coast of North Carolina, roughly equidistant between the barrier islands of the Crystal Coast and the beaches of the Cape Fear region, lying south of Jacksonville, North Carolina and Camp Lejeune.
September 7–17, 2018 – Hurricane Florence made landfall less than a mile south of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina with winds of 90 mph (145 km/h). The hurricane was first declared a threat to the state on Friday. Several people were rescued offshore due to rip currents affecting the area.
