The ELCA Youth Gathering is a national convention of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for high school-aged youth, held every three years in a different city in the United States. The gathering program lasts about five days and combines large mass gatherings, learning activities, and local service opportunities.
In 1994 the congregations of the Lincoln Lutheran School Association voted to expand Lutheran education in Lincoln beyond the ninth grade in support of a full, senior high school. In the fall of 1995, tenth grade was added, with the subsequent grades following annually. 1998 marked the high school's first graduating class.
The Lutheran High School of Kansas City was founded in 1980 with 44 students and nine faculty members, and it graduated its first class in 1983.
