It seemed that the most unhappy snowbirds were part of a couple where they were stuck doing most of the necessary things such as remembering to shut off/turn on utilities and bring all important belongings. They were very resentful of being stuck doing these things while the other half just enjoyed the whole thing.
I'm not actually a "snowbird" but I will have dual residency between NY & FL (Collier County). Other than requiring new residents to obtain a driver's license and vehicle tags within 30 days, does anyone know if temporary or part-time residents are required to obtain a FL driver's license and/or vehicle tags? Thanks for any input, have a great day!
Do I understand correctly that, as a snowbird in AZ, I can have a CT license (primary residence), but buy and register a vehicle in AZ that is intended to remain a west coast vehicle? As there is often a need to fly back during the winter, it makes more sense to leave an east coast vehicle in CT and have one here, than to drive back and forth.
Former snowbird here, from the Northeast we used to go visit friends in FL but when that was no longer practical, we looked into places to rent. It seemed at the time that if you drew a line from north of Tampa to St. Augustine in FL, south of that was ON season in the winter and north was OFF season. That may no longer be true.
I am wondering about the snowbird rules and regs. on leaving a car in AZ with it being registered in NC. NC requires an inspection before they issue the sticker. I don't want to drive across country to get a 5 minute inspection just to get my sticker for my plate.
Seems like snowbird has all the snow. We will be staying in Park City and I don't want to pay for a 60 dollar deer valley lift ticket only to have 6 runs to choose from. I heard snowbird is about 75% open and may be 100% open soon.
All I know is that nearly every permanent ex pat (US and Canadians) that live in mexico keep their cars registered in South Dakota. And, when we lived in snowbird RV land (aka East Mesa/Apache Junction), we saw LOTS if SD plates. Before you decide, I'd research the reasons why.
I did a walk thru on a new build for Fulton Homes in Queen Creek yesterday where they have a lot of Canadian investors buying.
Snowbirds, I am curious how those who go south for the winter set the thermostat in their house while they are away.
Reverse snowbird: A family lives in Florida and most of what they know is there, but they escape the heat of summer for part of the year, but they don't really "move" to the northern location. In both cases, the family will likely stay near home longer than the snowbird location.
