Adrian A. S. Zuckerman is a British legal scholar. He is Professor of Civil Procedure at the University of Oxford and editor of the Civil Justice Quarterly [1]. Zuckerman is the author of Principles of Criminal Evidence (1989), Justice in Crisis: Comparative Perspectives of Civil Procedure (1999), and Zuckerman on Civil Procedure: Principles of Practice (3rd edition 2013).

The principle of legality in criminal law [1] was developed in the eighteenth century by the Italian criminal lawyer Cesare Beccaria and holds that no one can be convicted of a crime without a previously published legal text which clearly describes the crime (Latin: nulla poena sine lege, lit. 'no punishment without law').
