[2] The most common symptoms are pain and swelling around the back of the ankle. [1] The pain is typically worse at the start of exercise and decreases thereafter. [3]
Infectious tenosynovitis is the infection of closed synovial sheaths in the flexor tendons of the fingers. It is usually caused by trauma, but bacteria can spread from other sites of the body. Although tenosynovitis usually affects the flexor tendon of the fingers, the disease can also affect the extensor tendons occasionally. [5]
Tendinopathy is a type of tendon disorder that results in pain, swelling, and impaired function. [2] The pain is typically worse with movement. [2] It most commonly occurs around the shoulder (rotator cuff tendinitis, biceps tendinitis), elbow (tennis elbow, golfer's elbow), wrist, hip, knee (jumper's knee, popliteus tendinopathy), or ankle (Achilles tendinitis).

The cause is usually a bacterial infection, [1] [7] [2] but rarely can be a fungal infection. [8] It may occur by spread from the blood or from surrounding tissue. [ 4 ] Risks for developing osteomyelitis include diabetes , intravenous drug use , prior removal of the spleen , and trauma to the area. [ 1 ]
Symptoms include the sudden onset of sharp pain in the heel. [3] A snapping sound may be heard as the tendon breaks and walking becomes difficult. [4] Rupture of the Achilles tendon usually occurs due to a sudden, forceful push-off movement, an abrupt dorsiflexion of the foot while the calf muscle is engaged, or direct trauma.
Other bacteria known to cause reactive arthritis which are more common worldwide are Ureaplasma urealyticum, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Yersinia spp., and Campylobacter spp. [17] A bout of food poisoning or a gastrointestinal infection may also precede the disease (the last four genera of bacteria mentioned above are enteric bacteria). [18]
Achilles tendinitis results from stress on calf muscles and Achilles tendon. This strong tendon often gets inflamed while playing sports like basketball. The tendon gets irritated and does cause moderate pain . When treated promptly, the tendinitis is relieved. Sometimes, the Achilles tendon can rupture if it is overstretched.
