In January 2007, the KNVB presented plans of the Eredivisie Vrouwen, a professional women's league. [1] Many clubs were interested, and on 20 March 2007, the league was officially unveiled by the KNVB for three seasons, with the first scheduled for 2007–08 with six clubs: ADO Den Haag, AZ, sc Heerenveen, FC Twente, FC Utrecht, and Willem II.

The 2023–24 Eredivisie Vrouwen, known as Azerion Vrouwen Eredivisie for sponsorship reasons, is the fourteenth season of the Netherlands women's professional football league. Twente won the league title. The season saw FC Utrecht rejoin the league, which expanded to 12 teams.
The club was established in 2011 as Sportclub Telstar Vrouwenvoetbal Noord-Holland and previously played in the Eredivisie and BeNe League. In the 2016–17 season, future Dutch national striker Katja Snoeijs led the league with 21 goals. [1] After that season, the team relocated to Alkmaar and formed VV Alkmaar.
