The city of Lawrenceburg is the county seat of Lawrence County, Tennessee, United States, [6] The largest city on the state's southern border between Chattanooga and Memphis, it lies on the banks of Shoal Creek. The population was 11,633 at the 2020 United States Census. The city is named after War of 1812 American Navy officer James Lawrence.

The church was founded in 1869-70 for German Catholics settling in the Lawrenceburg area. The land for the church was purchased by the Cincinnati Homestead Society. Father Henry Hueser was the first priest; initially services were held in his house. The first church building was a frame building completed in 1872.
By 1951, the United Church Chapel-on-the-Hill consolidated as a single interdenominational congregation, making its home in the Chapel on the Hill building.
