The East LA Classic, or East Los Angeles Classic ('The Classic') is the homecoming football game for both James A. Garfield High School and Theodore Roosevelt High School. It is known as the East L.A. classic, because the two schools were among the first schools to be established in the East Los Angeles area.
Four East Los Angeles players were selected as first-team players on the 1949 All-Metropolitan Conference football team: quarterback Bob Sherrill; end Bill Hattig; center Nick Sadd; and back Skippy Dyer. Weingart Stadium (formerly East Los Angeles College Stadium [2] or ELAC Stadium) is a 22,355-capacity multi-purpose stadium located at East Los Angeles College, in Monterey Park, California. It was built in 1951 at a cost of $3.1 million, and following renovations in 1984 it was renamed after philanthropist Ben Weingart .
The 2024 East Texas A&M Lions football team represented East Texas A&M University as a member of the Southland Conference during the 2024 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Lions were led by second-year head coach Clint Dolezel and played their home games at the Ernest Hawkins Field at Memorial Stadium in Commerce, Texas .
