East Greenwich is a coastal town, located on the western side of Narragansett Bay. [13] Of its total area of 16.71 square miles, 16.58 square miles is land and 0.14 square miles is water. [13] 20 percent of the land in East Greenwich consists of undeveloped woods and farmland, although development continues to bring this proportion down. [14]
East Greenwich was settled in 1677 with its town center growing in the district, with a rural farm landscape to the west. The area's road network had begun to take shape by the mid-18th century, and the town center was industrialized in the 19th century. [2] The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. [1]
The same year, a courthouse was constructed in East Greenwich, then the largest town in the new county. By 1799 the courthouse was too small, and the state legislature appointed a committee for the construction of a new building. The old building was sold and dismantled, and a new courthouse built on the site in 1804–05.

The mill site was purchased by the town of East Greenwich in 1969 and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. [1] The site is now part of Frenchtown Park, situated behind the Recreation Department Building, and can be accessed via Frenchtown Road.
