Rancid is an American punk rock band formed in Berkeley, California, in 1991.Founded by Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman, former members of the band Operation Ivy, Rancid is often credited (alongside Green Day and the Offspring) as being among the wave of bands that revived mainstream interest in punk rock in the United States during the mid-1990s. Frederiksen was present on Rancid's second album, Let's Go, which was released in 1994 and spawned the radio hit "Salvation", which reached number 21 on the modern rock charts. Its U.S. release date, June 14, 1994, was also Freeman's 28th birthday. That year their label-mates, The Offspring, experienced a huge success with their album Smash.
Frederiksen joined Rancid in 1993 after the band was searching for a second guitar player and was present on their second album, Let's Go. He has produced albums for bands such as Dropkick Murphys, Agnostic Front, the Business, Swingin' Utters, Marky Ramone and the Intruders, Anti-Heros, Pressure Point, and the Forgotten, among others.
