The Plum Blossom Festival (梅花祭, baikasai) is held on February 25, coinciding with the monthly market. An open-air tea ceremony (野点, nodate ) is hosted by geiko and apprentice maiko from the nearby Kamishichiken district, where tea and wagashi are served to 3,000 guests by geisha and maiko.
Many of those bloom in late March or April when an annual Cherry Blossom Festival is held. In 1990 Shimizu Park was selected by the Japan Sakura Association as one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. [1] Plum trees and azalea plants also abound. Gifu Plum Blossom Festival 2008. Of the 1,300 trees, about 700 have white blossoms and 600 have red blossoms. The earliest plum trees beginning blooming in mid-January, with the majority of the blooming occurring in February and March. The best viewing time is in early March, when most of the plum trees are in bloom.
