Northwood High School is a public high school located in the northernmost part of Irvine, California, United States, in the Orchard Hills neighborhood. It opened in 1999, and its first graduating class graduated in 2002. In 2016, Northwood was ranked 25 nationally in Newsweek 's list of top public high schools. [2]
NorthWood High School's mascot is the panther, and its colors are red and black. The school competes in the Northern Lakes Conference [4] along with Concord, Goshen, Mishawaka, Northridge, Plymouth, Warsaw and Wawasee. NorthWood's football team was state champion in 2005. [5] The football team was state runner-up in 2023. [6]
Coe-Brown Northwood Academy was founded in 1867 as a small private academy after veterans from the Civil War had pushed for the creation of a high school in Northwood. Shares were sold to 200 shareholders at $10.00. The shareholders originally owned the academy. Another high school in Northwood, the Northwood Seminary, was created in the same year.
De Freitas has been the primary kicker for NorthWood all three years of high school. He’s converted 136 of his 139 point-after-touchdown (PAT) attempts and is 17-of-20 on field goals.

Lark Elementary and Olney Elementary were razed 2017, as was the Former Northwood High School Building which closed as a school in 2017 with the opening of the new Northwood Schools Building on the campus.
