The Texas State Railroad, also referred to as the Lone Star and Eastern Railroad, is a historic 25 mi (40 km) heritage railroad between Rusk and Palestine, Texas. Built by inmates, it was founded in 1883 by the state of Texas to haul raw materials for a smelter at the prison at Rusk.

The Romanesque Revival style was inspired by Henry Hobson Richardson's designs for small railroad stations. [2] It was the first railway depot in Wright County. [3] It passed to the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad and continued to serve as a working depot until 1980. The Dows Historical Society bought and restored the depot in 1988.

[7] The route heads east into Round Rock, Texas, where it reaches its eastern terminus at Interstate 35's exit 256. The roadway continues into Round Rock as University Boulevard. [7]
