DTour (styled as DTOUR) is a Canadian English language discretionary specialty channel owned by TVTropolis G.P., a subsidiary of Corus Entertainment.. The channel was originally established by Canwest in 1997 as Prime, a cable companion to Global with a general entertainment format focusing on classic series and programming acquired from Global and CH.
They address the viewer directly, acting as tourists-turned-tour guides, but are also filmed interacting with locals and discovering interesting locations in (mostly) unrehearsed sequences. Globe Trekker also sometimes includes brief interviews with backpackers who share tips on independent travel in that particular country or city.
The channel was launched on September 7, 2001, as CTV Travel [2] under the sole ownership of CTV Television Inc [3] (now a wholly-owned division of what is now Bell Media). Programming on the channel consisted of docu-series devoted to travel such as Jet Set , Exotic Islands , Places of Mystery , and Full Circle with Michael Palin .
