Plattekill is a town in Ulster County, New York, United States. The population was 10,424 in 2020, [2] a slight decrease from 10,499 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from a stream, the Platte Kill. The town of Plattekill is in the southeastern part of the county, immediately north of the town of Newburgh in neighboring Orange County.

Hemlock Ridge Multiple Use Area is an 80-acre (32 ha) state forest in New York, USA.It is located in the town of Plattekill in southern Ulster County. [1] [2] The forest covers a hilly area on the western flank of Marlboro Mountain, the namesake ridge of the Marlboro Mountains range.

It is one of the oldest houses in the town, although it has been added onto and rebuilt a great deal since its original construction. Johannis Shuart, an early settler from New Jersey, acquired 500 acres (2.0 km 2 ) from one of the original patentees in 1772, and may well have been living there earlier.
