Coeur d'Alene Mission of the Sacred Heart is a historic church mission school off U.S. 95 in Desmet, Idaho. The mission was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. [1] De Smet mission school. The mission was destroyed by fire in 2011. [2] The NRHP-listed building was a major schoolhouse which had been built in two phases.

Cataldo Mission, the oldest standing building in Idaho, was constructed at Cataldo by the Coeur d'Alene and Catholic missionaries. In 1842, Father Pierre-Jean De Smet , with Fr. Nicholas Point and Br. Charles Duet, selected a mission location along the St. Joe River .
De Smet celebrated the mass in Idaho in July 1840 at Henry's Lake. [1] Nicholas Point in 1843 constructed the Cataldo Mission along the St. Joe River near present-day St. Maries. It was the first mission church in Idaho. The Cataldo Mission later moved to its present location on the Coeur d'Alene River. It is the oldest building in Idaho.
