The College began its operations in January 2001 in a six-story office building in downtown Johor Bahru. In May 2013, the College moved to a new campus at Taman Desa Cemerlang, which accommodates up to 1,200 students and is equipped with facilities including a cafeteria, lecture halls, and dormitories.
The most recognisable feature of the school is The New School (built in 1930), a building with pseudo English Classic Victorian architecture once be a Malay Teacher Training College at Johore Bahru and later on change into the famous English College Johore Bahru in 1931. The school is built to accommodate 300 students initially.
In December 2011, Johor Bahru Polytechnic was renamed Ibrahim Sultan Polytechnic, in honour of the Sultan of Johor. [ 9 ] Between 2010 and 2015, PIS was upgraded twice by the Ministry of Higher Education , first into a Premier Polytechnic in 2010 and then a Premier Polytechnic (University Status) in 2015.
Due to the unfinished school building, all school administration was conducted at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tasek Utara. Until April 17, 1995, school management was carried out in the new building (at SMKBBU) after approval from the Johor Bahru District Public Works Department, which only permitted the use of the Amanah and Bakti blocks.
