The Waco Boating and Fishing Club was first proposed on January 10, 1890, by prominent Waco citizens. [1] [2] A month later, the club was chartered by the state with 50 initial members. [1] The club purchased a 50-acre site at a cost of $2,000 upon which to construct their headquarters, which they named "Fountain Lake".

Recently Waco's city leaders have been working to make Downtown Waco the city center again. There are two projects currently being worked on in Heritage Square, which takes up two blocks in the downtown area. The first project is the new Chamber of Commerce of Waco, which will be an environmentally-friendly building.
