In fuel injected engines, the throttle body is the part of the air intake system that controls the amount of air flowing into the engine, in response to driver accelerator pedal input in the main. The throttle body is usually located between the air filter box and the intake manifold, and it is usually attached to, or near, the mass airflow sensor.
There exist two types of manifold injection systems: multi-point (or port) and single-point (or throttle body) injection. Internal mixture formation systems can be separated into several different varieties of direct and indirect injection, the most common being the common-rail injection, a variety of direct injection.
A heated air inlet or warm air intake is a system commonly used on the original air cleaner assemblies of carburetted engines to increase the temperature of the air going into the engine for the purpose of improving the consistency of the air/fuel mixture to reduce engine emissions and fuel usage. The cleaner removes particles by adhering them to the oil-soaked filter media rather than traditional filtration, the openings in the filter media are much larger than the particles that are to be filtered. When the cleaner is assembled, the media-containing body of the insert sits a short distance above the surface of the oil pool.
