Nikolay Fyodorovich Makarov (Russian: Никола́й Фёдорович Мака́ров; 22 May [O.S. 9 May] 1914 – 13 May 1988) was a Soviet firearms designer, most notable for his Makarov pistol. He was given the title Hero of Socialist Labour in 1974.
Nikolai Makarov was born on 7 October 1949 in the village of Glebovo-Gorodishche [], Ryazan Oblast, in the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic.After completing school he originally planned to attend the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys, but decided to apply to the Moscow Higher Combined Arms Command School instead after being recommended to do so by a friend.

In 1982 Makarov was bought by SM-liiga team Jokerit.Makarov became a premier defenceman for Jokerit and was selected the best defenceman of the year in 1983. At the end of the regular season 1982–82, an opponent slashed his arm with his stick, causing a major injury, and Makarov was not able to recover fully before the play-off finals against IFK Helsinki, which Jokerit lost 3–2.
