Leeds City College is the largest further education establishment in the City of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England with around 26,000 students, 2,300 staff, with an annual turnover of £78 million. [1] It officially opened on 1 April 2009.
Luminate Education Group (formerly Leeds City College Group [1]) brings together a number of secondary, further and higher education institutions in Yorkshire, England. It was renamed from Leeds City College Group in December 2018 to better reflect its growing portfolio of institutions. [2] The chief executive of Luminate is Colin Booth. [3]
The college served more than 5,000 students each year. On 1 April 2009, Leeds College of Technology merged with Leeds Thomas Danby and the Park Lane College to form the new Leeds City College. [2] The site on Cookridge Street was then known as the Technology Campus of the new college.
The school is in the eastern corner of Leeds city centre. The original site for the school was on Hill Street and Dolly Lane. The school had a main site and a separate annexe, which had a maths department, science department and a sixth form department. In September 2006 the school moved to a new purpose-built site, which is part of a PFI scheme.
Leeds Trinity outdoor sports facilities include 3 full-size rugby/football pitches, 6 dedicated tennis courts, 2 multi-use hard courts and a running track. [22] In 2012, Leeds Trinity opened a new 3G All Weather Pitch. The pitch is the latest generation of 3G synthetic turf accredited by FIFATM for football and the FIHTM for Hockey. [22]
The college was named after the first Mayor of Leeds, Captain Thomas Danby of Farnley. On 1 April 2009, Leeds Thomas Danby merged with Park Lane College and the Leeds College of Technology to form the new Leeds City College. The Leeds Thomas Danby site, on Roundhay Road in Leeds, was known as the Thomas Danby Campus of the new college.
