The first generation of the Chevrolet Silverado is a series of trucks manufactured by General Motors from 1998 until 2007 under the Chevrolet brand and also as the GMC Sierra. Built on the new GMT800 platform, the Silverado/Sierra 1500 and 2500 pickup trucks were first released in August 1998 as 1999 models.
All Silverado and Sierra 1500 models received a revised bumper and shortened front fascia for the 2009 model year, and extended and crew cab models equipped with the Vortec 5300 V8 received a new six-speed 6L80 automatic transmission. The Vortec 6200 V8 was made available for Silverado LT/LTZ and Sierra SLE/SLT models.
Introduced in January 2022, the Silverado EV went on sale in 2023 for the 2024 model year in the North American market. Despite using the Silverado nameplate, the vehicle does not share its underpinnings with the ICE -powered Silverado, as it is built on a narrower version of the dedicated electric platform used by the GMC Hummer EV .
