The Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1981 by Chief LaMunyon in the Wichita Police Department and in 1983 the International Association of Chiefs of Police officially adopted the Torch Run. Many of the original participants in the Torch Run were later inducted as Hall of Fame members by Special Olympics. [10]
