α,N,N-Trimethyltryptamine (α,N,N-TMT, α-TMT, ATMT) is a psychoactive drug of the tryptamine chemical class which acts as a psychedelic hallucinogen.It is similar in structure to the other psychedelics of the tryptamine class such as dimethyltryptamine (DMT) and α-methyltryptamine (α-MT).
4-HO-TMT is a quaternary trimethyl ammonium compound, and as a result, is less likely to be able to cross the blood–brain barrier (BBB) and enter the central nervous system than other tryptamines. [ 1 ] [ 4 ] Accordingly, 4-HO-TMT showed no ability to cross an artificial BBB-like membrane in a study. [ 2 ]
2,N,N-trimethyltryptamine, 2,N,N-TMT, or 2-Me-DMT is a tryptamine derivative that is a psychedelic drug. It was invented by Alexander Shulgin and reported in his book TiHKAL (#34). [ 1 ]
