The answer is that when the table has a row without containing any rowspan=1 cell, this row is "compressed" upwards and disappears. Solution: divide one of the tall cells so that the row gets one rowspan=1 cell (and don't mind the eventual loss of text-centering). Then kill the border between them.
mw-collapsible also does not require a header row in the table, as collapsible did. Tables will show the "[hide]" / "[show]" controls in the first row of the table (whether or not it is a header row), unless a table caption is present.(see § Tables with captions) Example with a header row
It is easy to use now. It is a template to automatically add row numbers to sortable tables. The row numbers will not be sorted when columns of data are sorted. A possible note to add above a table: Row numbers are static. Other columns are sortable. This allows ranking of any column. See list of articles transcluding {{static row numbers}}.
Column 2 (row 1 cell 2) Column 3 (row 1 cell 3) A (row 2 cell 1) rowspan=2: B (row 2 cell 2) colspan=2: C (row 3 cell 1) D (row 3 cell 2) E (row 4 cell 1) F (row 4 cell 2) rowspan=2 colspan=2: G (row 5 cell 1) H (row 6 cell 1) colspan=3
One method of hiding rows in tables (or other structures within tables) uses HTML directly. [1] HTML is more complicated than MediaWiki table syntax, but not much more so. In general, there are only a handful of HTML tags you need to be aware of
[3] In reporting [4] (including business reporting, data reporting and financial reporting), colgroups and rowgroups can be used for constructing tables and matrices which dynamically adjusts the size of their columns and rows, respectively, by displaying the set of columns in the colgroup set (which again is a subset of the underlying data).
The easiest way to insert a new table is to use the editing toolbar that appears when you edit a page (see image above). Clicking the button will open a dialog where you define what you want in your new table. Once you've chosen the number of rows and columns, the wiki markup text for the table is inserted into the article.
The file is divided into 2 sections: header and data. Everything in DIF is represented by a 2- or 3-line chunk. Headers get a 3-line chunk; data, 2. Header chunks start with a text identifier that is all caps, only alphabetic characters, and less than 32 letters. The following line must be a pair of numbers, and the third line must be a quoted ...
