The monument is a stone structure in the shape of a slender square pyramid, with a total height of 50 feet (15 m) and walls that are 18 feet (5.5 m) long at the base and 4 feet 6 inches (1.37 m) at the top. It appears to have been built from rock quarried on the island. The monument is marked with vertical black stripes on each face.

The Great Falls Historic District encompasses the remains of an early 19th-century mill hamlet in Windham, Maine.On the east bank of the Presumpscot River north of Windham Center Road are a cluster of three houses from the period, as well as the archaeological remains (most visibly building foundations) of a few mills that lined the river at the falls just north of the road.
