Inspector Morse is a British television crime drama, starring John Thaw and Kevin Whately, for which eight series were broadcast between 1987 and 2000, totalling thirty-three episodes. John Edward Thaw (3 January 1942 – 21 February 2002) was an English actor in television, stage and cinema, best known for his starring roles in the television series Inspector Morse as Detective Chief Inspector Endeavour Morse and in The Sweeney as Detective Inspector Jack Regan.
Endeavour is the third of the Inspector Morse series, following the original Inspector Morse (1987–2000) and its spin-off, Lewis (2006–2015). Nine series were made, set from 1965 to 1972. After a pilot episode broadcast in 2012, set in 1965, the first series was broadcast in 2013, also set in 1965.
