On December 21, 2021, the Government of Sikkim announced the formation of 2 new districts as well as the renaming of the existing 4 districts. In 1977 North Sikkim district became home to Khangchendzonga National Park, which has an area of 1,784 km 2 (688.8 sq mi). [14] It shares the park with West Sikkim district .
