The 12309 / 12310 Rajendra Nagar Terminal (Patna)-New Delhi Tejas Rajdhani Express is a Rajdhani class train of Indian Railways, that connects the state capital of Bihar, Patna to the national capital of India, Delhi.
On 1 March 1969, the first Rajdhani Express with nine coaches was flagged off from New Delhi to Howrah with the return journey commencing on 3 March. [4] The train completed the 1,450 km (900 mi) trip in 17 hours 20 minutes and was the only such train in operation till 1972, when the second Rajdhani was introduced from Mumbai .
The New Delhi-Rajendranagar Terminal (Patna) Tejas Rajdhani Express is the fastest train of this route (and is the fastest train of India) to cover a distance of 1001 Km in just 11 hours and 30 minutes, while Howrah–New Delhi Rajdhani Express is one of the fastest train on this route as it covers this journey in 19 hours and 25 minutes.
The inaugural run of Tejas Express was on 24 May 2017 from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Maharashtra to Karmali, Goa.It covered 552 km in 8 hours and 30 minutes. [2] On 1 March 2019, the second Tejas Express of the country was flagged off between Chennai Egmore and Madurai Junction by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. [3]
During the time of its introduction, the Agartala Rajdhani Express use to traverse via Katihar- Barauni – Patliputra route to Delhi. However, on 15 January 2024, due to commercial requirements and passenger demand, the Railway Board approved its re-routing via Malda Town – Bhagalpur – Jamalpur – Patna route, with commercial stoppages at Malda Town, Bhagalpur, Jamalpur and Patna Junction.
