A great deal of damage occurs wherever the larva try to make a home. In response to the attack, the body attempts to destroy it by walling it off or killing it. The larva moves rapidly to escape, seeking out the liver, eyes, spinal cord or brain. Occasionally they can be found in the heart, lungs, and other organs.
Ascariasis is a disease caused by the parasitic roundworm Ascaris lumbricoides. [1] Infections have no symptoms in more than 85% of cases, especially if the number of worms is small. [1] Symptoms increase with the number of worms present and may include shortness of breath and fever at the beginning of the disease. [1]
A. lumbricoides is the largest intestinal roundworm and is the most common helminth infection of humans worldwide. Infestation can cause morbidity by compromising nutritional status, [ 3 ] affecting cognitive processes, [ 4 ] inducing tissue reactions such as granuloma to larval stages, and by causing intestinal obstruction , which can be fatal.
Infection may occur when food is handled without removing or killing the eggs on the hands, clothes, hair, raw vegetables/fruit, or cooked food that is (re)infected by handlers, containers, etc. Bleach does not readily kill A. lumbricoides eggs, but it will remove their sticky film, to allow the eggs to be rinsed away.

[12] There are many factors that contribute to anthelmintic resistance, such as frequent, mass anthelmintic treatment, underdosing, treating repeatedly with only one anthelmintic, and resistance being transmitted during transfer of animals.
