During the mid-1960s, the city built a plumbed outdoor ice-skating rink next to the clubhouse facility. The rink is now defunct and was closed in 2003 due to the opening of a new ice-skating rink in the downtown area. The old rink at Burnet Park is still used for broomball and roller hockey in the summer months, but is closed to the general public.
In 1956, a former reservoir was converted to a skating rink to accommodate requests for year-round ice-skating facilities. The open-air rink would facilitate ice hockey and figure-skating in the winter, and dancing and roller-skating events in the summer. In October 1957, it opened to the public.

Ak-Sar-Ben Coliseum was the premiere ice rink and concert arena in Omaha for more than 70 years. Popular acts ranging from Frank Sinatra to Elvis Presley to Nirvana all performed to sold-out crowds. It was also home to the Omaha Knights, a minor league hockey team from 1959 to 1975.
Timber Linn Park is a 90-acre (364,000 m²) park situated east of Interstate 5 and south of the Albany Municipal Airport on SE Price Road. Timber Linn Park has large open spaces with basketball courts, softball fields, horseshoe pits, various bike and pedestrian paths, playgrounds, covered meeting areas, tennis courts and a Frisbee field.
The arena has hosted the NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Championship as well, in 2007. From 1993 to 2002, the arena annually hosted the ECAC Hockey League's championships every March. The ECAC announced in July 2012 that the league would again crown its champion in Herb Brooks Arena for the 2013–14, 2014–15, and 2015–16 seasons.
