Clarion is the birthplace of the four-leaf clover emblem used by the 4-H Clubs of America, conceived of in 1907 by the local school superintendent, O.H. Benson. [4] See June 15, 1927 article in Wright County Monitor. Clarion is the site of an unsolved murder case from 1888.
Wright County is a county in the U.S. state of Iowa.As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,943. [1] The county seat is Clarion. [2] The county organization became effective in January 1851, and is believed to be named either after Silas Wright, a governor of New York, or Joseph Albert Wright, a governor of Indiana.
The station was built in 1898 by contractor A. H. Connor & Company of Cedar Rapids, Iowa for the Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Northern Railroad (BCR&N). Clarion also had a Chicago Great Western Railway depot, no longer extant. At one time there were 14 trains that served the city. [2]
The Wright County Courthouse in Clarion, Iowa, United States was built in 1892. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981 as a part of the County Courthouses in Iowa Thematic Resource. The Clarion–Goldfield Community School District and the Dows Community School District consolidated into the Clarion–Goldfield–Dows CSD on July 1, 2014. [5] The two school districts sought a merger because of declining enrollments and because a State of Iowa funding program for small schools was to be terminated in 2013.

Cornelia Lake Bridge is a historic structure located northeast of Clarion, Iowa, United States.The bridge was originally constructed over the Iowa River in 1877. It was built by A.S. Leonard by using steel supplied by the Wrought Iron Bridge Company.
