The Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS) is an industry taxonomy developed in 1999 by MSCI and Standard & Poor's (S&P) for use by the global financial community. The GICS structure consists of 11 sectors, 25 industry groups, 74 industries and 163 sub-industries [1] into which S&P has categorized all major public companies.
The following is a list of the world's largest publicly traded financial services companies, ordered by annual sales for the latest Fiscal Year in millions of U.S. dollars according to the Fortune Global 500. (Currently the top 50 public companies are included, while privately held companies are not included).
The list excludes the following three banks listed amongst the 100 largest by the Federal Reserve but not the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council because they are not holding companies: Zions Bancorporation ($87 billion in assets), Cadence Bank ($48 billion in assets) and Bank OZK ($36 billion in assets).
